What We Do

Although we are a young hosting agency, we have established a highly trusted network of connections to ensure our program provides an authentic Irish learning experience that will help shape your child's future.

At the conclusion of their time in Ireland, your child will have gained greater independence, developed a more open-minded perspective, and made significant strides in both spoken and written English. In the rare event that any concerns arise during their stay, we are committed to addressing them promptly and efficiently, ensuring a smooth and positive experience throughout.

Transition Year (TY)

  • What is Transition Year? Transition Year is a one-year program offered to students typically aged 15-16 after completing their Junior Cycle (lower secondary school). It serves as a bridge to the Senior Cycle, allowing students to explore their interests and develop new skills.

  • Core Features of TY in Dundalk:

  • Broad Curriculum: Students engage in core subjects like English, maths, and Irish, alongside electives such as art, drama, business, and technology. This allows them to try new subjects in a low-pressure environment.

  • Projects and Activities: TY emphasizes hands-on learning. Spanish students can participate in group projects, mini-companies, and creative workshops.

  • Work Experience: Many schools in Dundalk arrange short internships or work placements, providing practical insights into careers.

  • Trips and Workshops: TY students often take part in local excursions, adventure trips, and cultural activities such as theater visits, exploring nearby landmarks like Carlingford Lough or historical sites in Louth.

  • Clubs and Sports: This year encourages participation in extracurricular activities like GAA sports, soccer, drama clubs, or coding groups.

  • Relaxed Academic Pressure: TY doesn’t focus heavily on exams, giving students more freedom to enjoy learning and personal growth.

  • TY Ball: This is the event of the year for students and tickets will need to be purchased in September for the event in February.

5th Year (Senior Cycle)

  • What is 5th Year? 5th Year is the first of two years in the Senior Cycle, leading to the Leaving Certificate (Ireland’s final secondary school exam). Students in this stage are typically aged 16-17 and begin to specialize in subjects they will take for their Leaving Cert.

  • Core Features of 5th Year in Dundalk:

  • Subject Choices: Students choose 6-8 subjects based on their interests and future goals. Common options include:

    • Core: English, maths, and Irish.

    • Electives: Languages, biology, business, history, physics, geography, and more.

  • Exam Preparation: While not as intense as the final year, 5th Year introduces students to more structured study habits and prepares them for assessments.

  • Supportive Environment: Teachers provide guidance, helping students adjust to academic demands. Extra support is often available for international students, especially in English language skills.

  • Extracurricular Opportunities: Many 5th Year students balance academics with sports, music, or other hobbies. Joining a GAA team, learning Irish dancing, or taking part in school musicals are common ways to connect with Irish peers.

  • Community Projects: Schools often encourage volunteering or participating in local initiatives, fostering a sense of community involvement.

Tours and Events

As we would like all of our students to get to know our local area, we will organise various cultural outings to nearby towns, villages and scenic areas i.e.: Carlingford, Clogherhead, Blackrock, Cuchulainn's Castle, Roche Castle and others.

Fun and adventure: We will organise 1 fun adventure trip per term that will include a choice between - day trip to Dublin, day trip to Belfast, Carlingford Adventure Centre, Newgrange Heritage Centre or Emerald Park.

Progress Reports

We will be available to every student 24 hours a day on the phone and in person if needed. We will meet with each student once a month to fill in a progress report and chat with them. These reports will be available to parents and will be emailed at the end of each term.

We are in constant contact with Host Families especially during the first 2 months. We will meet with them once a month and fill out a progress report which will also be available to parents if needed.

School reports are issued once per year, at the end of school year, however Christmas exam reports and Easter exam reports will be available from the school and will be emailed to parents when issued by the school.
